# Reach Android Contacts Without A2P (P2P SMS)

> Turn on P2P SMS and a Tuco line texts Android contacts from its own number — green bubble, same thread, no A2P 10DLC registration. Off by default.

**A Tuco line can send an ordinary text message itself, from its own number, to a contact who isn't on iMessage.** Same number, same thread — the contact just sees a green bubble instead of a blue one. Because it's person-to-person traffic, there is **no A2P 10DLC brand or campaign registration**.

  P2P SMS is **off by default on every line**. It is enabled per line by Tuco support — there is no self-serve toggle. Ask us to turn it on for the lines you want it on.

## Why this isn't A2P

A2P 10DLC governs *application-to-person* traffic: software sending from a 10-digit long code you registered with the carriers. P2P SMS is the opposite shape. The message leaves the iPhone paired to your line's Mac, over that phone's own carrier plan, the way a person's phone sends a text. There's no long code to register and no campaign to file.

That also means there's **no second number**. No Twilio, no Telnyx, no separate sender. If a contact replies, it lands in the same conversation as everything else.

## The order Tuco uses

When a contact turns out not to be on iMessage:

    Sent as a green bubble from the same number. This wins even when you have an SMS provider connected — the contact's existing thread beats a number they don't recognise.

    Twilio, Telnyx or GoHighLevel, from a separate number. This route needs A2P 10DLC.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Otherwise, nothing is sent">
    The message is marked **No iMessage — not reached** so you can see it plainly rather than assuming it landed.

## What it looks like in the Unibox

A green send shows as **Sent as SMS**. It sits in the same conversation as the iMessages, because it came from the same number.

A message that could not be delivered any way shows **No iMessage — not reached** — that label means nothing went out, not that a text was sent.

## Requirements and limits

    * The line healthy — a green text leaves the same Mac as an iMessage, so a line that's down can't send either
    * A valid mobile number. An Apple ID email can't receive a text.

    Attachments over green would be MMS, which is a different path and isn't supported. A message with an attachment won't green-send; it falls through to your provider, or is marked not reached.

    Yes. A green text leaves the same Mac and the same Messages app as an iMessage, so Apple sees it the same way and it counts against the same per-line caps. See [rate limits](/features/rate-limits).

    No. SMS carries no delivery or read receipts, so a green send shows as **Sent as SMS** and stops there. That is the transport, not a problem with the message.
